SPRINT® PNS; Ankle Pain
Now, Denice is able to be more present for her boys
Denice is the mom of two boys, ages 8 and 10. Her boys love baseball, and she loves watching them play. But her ankle pain often kept her from cheering them on from the bleachers.
Before SPRINT
Denice injured a tendon and had surgery to repair it in 2017. Unfortunately, she suffered nerve damage during the surgery that caused severe chronic pain. She tried multiple treatment options, including physical therapy, opioids, and injections. But nothing worked to relieve the pain.
The pain was so severe that Denice could barely sleep at night. She was exhausted every day which meant she wasn’t fully present for her boys. She would often have to leave her boys’ tournaments and games early since it was painful to stand and cheer for long periods of time. This all changed when her physician, Dr. Seung Sim at OrthoIndy, told her about SPRINT PNS.
After SPRINT
Denice had her MicroLead™ implanted in November 2018 and was asked to rate her pain on a scale of 0-10 with 0 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain imaginable. Denice said, “I went in with pain at a 7-8, and came out with pain at 2.” She kept the stimulation on every day for 60 days, turning it off only to shower. During those 60 days her pain never felt higher than a 2.
Denice says that most of the time now, she has no pain. She sometimes has flare ups, but she doesn’t even take over the counter pain medication in those cases. She is now able to sleep soundly at night.
And now, many months after lead removal, Denice is able to be more present for her boys. She never worries about double header tournaments or extra-inning games anymore. With her pain gone, Denice can stay to cheer on her sons for as long as it takes.
