SPRINT® PNS; Nerve Pain
“I've got my life back!”
Before SPRINT
In 2004, Jan developed Shingles. The pain was under her left shoulder blade. Jan describes the pain as feeling "like a red-hot carving knife was piercing under my left shoulder blade and through my breast."
For the next two years, the pain was relentless and severe. Jan would come home from work and collapse with a heating pad on her back. She has two children and said if the pain from natural childbirth was 10 out of 10, then this pain was an 8 or 9. From 2006 to 2020, Jan experienced chronic pain as a result of nerve damage from Shingles. The pain was triggered when she golfed, stood for long periods of time preparing meals, and sat for long periods of time at the computer or playing bridge.
She continued her activities while trying many treatments including topical and oral medications, cortisone injections, physical therapy, and even a TENS unit ̶ but these treatments helped only moderately to relieve the pain, and all wore off quickly. It was suggested that she consider nerve ablation, but she did not want to pursue that option due to the potential nerve destruction she might encounter.
After SPRINT
In early 2020, Jan was still having pain under her shoulder blade and was frustrated that none of the treatments she had received over the past 16 years had worked. That's when she was referred to Dr. Jaideep Mehta. He suggested SPRINT PNS to Jan, and she received the 60-day treatment in February 2020. Jan states that "almost immediately the pain subsided and continuously decreased over the next 60 days." Jan describes that Dr. Mehta put her at ease by explaining how the device works, and she felt comfortable knowing that her husband could help her during the treatment period.
Now more than three months after treatment, Jan reports that she is thrilled to be back playing 18 holes of golf several times a week, working on her computer, cooking, and playing bridge pain free. "I've got my life back!" Overall, I could not be happier."
